“For me, reading a blueprint is like reading a book,” says Derek Mazzola, Asst PM on the Tellus II project with Associated Construction. “I was hooked on construction from my first smell of cut wood in a 6th-grade carpentry shop. The satisfaction of making something with my hands was an immense source of pride for me from the beginning.”
Derek landed a summer job at 16 on a housing project and has never looked back. “Now I’m responsible for procurement, area coordination, submittals, and other planning processes that bring components of this project together.” Explains Derek
Originally from Boston, he was drawn to Connecticut by his fiancé Heather. After renovating their first house, he was searching for a company where he could make a long-term career.
“I was looking for a company where I could be part of a team. When I found Associated, I knew it was the right place for me. They have the organization, training, systems, processes, and commitment to growing their employees. As a team, we all work together to support one another, which makes working here a pleasure.”
Other pleasures in Derek’s life include enjoying art exhibits with Heather, dining out, and traveling. “I have found a home here in Connecticut and enjoy having the time to enjoy life.”
